Deltacrypt

Deltacrypt is a trivial encryption scheme that I "invented" somewhere in the 90s, as a kid growing bored of Cesar ciphers. It's likely not novel, and at that time had previous implementations that I didn't know of.

The idea is simple: Hide the text inbetween its characters. Take each character's numerical value and subtract it from the previous character's value. The difference, i.e. the "delta" will be used as the new ciphertext character.

This will only work if you start with a non-zero offset. Which can be a benefit as you need to pick a random offset, and you can re-encode for each character of a longer chain of text. Et voila, you have a password for decryption.

Build

This application relies on built-in dependencies. You can just use "go build ."

Usage

Runtime parameters:

  • "-d" - decrypt. Runs the algorithm backwards.
  • "-p" - password. Supplies the password. Required for both, en- and decryption

Input/output will be done via stdin/stdout

Feedback

Due to spam, I've encrypted my eMail address that's to be used for any type of feedback:

Ciphertext: uoiyrtgsC(!??Jb?)vHFd Password: password

Let me know what you think.
